LOCATION & SURF CHECK
Sri Lanka’s south west coast is a wave garden with more than 15+ surf spots within easy reach from the camp, with most of the breaks located within 10 minutes.
Every morning we will do a surf check online and with our local surfing friends and decide which beaches to head to. This will depend on factors such as the ability level of each group, and the swell conditions. This means that the chances are high that you’ll have ideal conditions whatever level of surfer you are.
We have many 4 main breaks in walking distance from the camp. Check them out here.
YOUR FIRST SURF LESSON
Some people feel completely confident in the waves, while others are a little intimidated by being out in the ocean. Either way, everyone – without exception – loves their first day surfing.
Your first lesson takes place at Weligama Beach, one of the best beginner-friendly surf spots in southern Sri Lanka. With warm water, a soft sandy bottom, shallow areas, and no dangerous marine life or strong currents, it’s the perfect place to start your surfing adventure.
We will begin on the beach with a warm-up and an introduction to the surf break and your beginner board. Your coach will then guide you through the basics: lying on the board in the correct position, paddling, and popping up – or, if needed, an alternative method like the 4-step technique. After learning essential safety techniques to keep you confident and secure in the waves, it’s time to hit the water and start surfing.
Your first day will wrap up with a summary of the skills you will be building on during the week and a preview of what’s coming next. By the end of the week, most beginners are ready to catch waves on their own – so the real fun is just beginning!
VIDEO ANALYSIS & SURF THEORY
In addition to plenty of time in the water, you will also benefit from video analysis (available from a minimum of three lessons) and surf theory classes, which are included for everyone. You can download your videos for free the following day and save them as a fantastic keepsake from your surfing adventure.
Both the video analysis and theory sessions are incredibly helpful, allowing you to see what you did well, spot areas for improvement, and apply those lessons in your next session.
